Ugh, I REALLY don't like the tapered design. Don't like it on the MacBook Air (a machine I love in general) and I certainly don't want it on an iPhone. The iPhone 4 design is very good, I wouldn't mind a tiny bit thinner and a grippier surface, but I hope this design shown here does not happen.

Amazon does give a decent amount of free storage. 5 Gigs for music is pretty impressive. I have a 20 Gig collection, but I'd only need about 3 to store the stuff I'd really want on a whim anyway.

My MBP has been having some strange issues lately, so I've pulled the plug on Folding to see if that helps stabilize the system. That'll drop me out of the top 10 pretty quickly, what with all there crazy numbers some of you guys are posting. Ought to drop my PPD to about 1,400 or so.

A recently published patent application from Apple entitled "Proximity detector in handheld device" describes an interesting technology for potential use in the next generation of iPod devices.

These legal skirmishes haven't and won't result in any major untoward changes to Apple products. We all know this already.
I'm not disagreeing. I'm just disputing the idea that somehow the U.S. courts are biased towards Apple. Apple's court results don't indicate that.

I'm guessing 'yes' simply because I think "Because they want it to be in the fall" is the one reason for moving it that makes the most sense to me. I think that's the whole point.
3) Does this affect the timing of iOS's release, which has traditionally been released with the new iPhone and has been centered around the iPhone's hardware?
I have less reason to believe it, but I sure hope that iOS 5 still comes out in the summer. I'd like to see iOS updates divorced from hardware updates, just like it is with the Mac.

It really doesn't make sense to me that Apple is changing the time frame of when the iPhone 5 will be released!

Clock speed isn't everything. The sandy bridge i5 should be considerably faster. With that said, buying a MBA to do intensive things with is questionable to begin with.
x2. Considering that Apple is the company who first talked about "megahertz myth" back in the days of the PowerPC, it's amazing how much ignorance there is about the Sandy Bridge Core i5. The CPU will be significantly faster. Look at the 13" MacBook Pro for some indication. The Core i5 in the 13" Pro is nearly as fast as the Core i7 was in the 2010 MacBook Pro.
That said, we will see about a 30-40% drop in GPU performance. Gamers may want to stay away from the next MacBook Air. That said, those who don't game ought to be able to do "intensive things" with the Sandy Bridge CPU. MP3 encoding, photo editing, complex spreadsheets, etc. ought to be nice on the Sandy Bridge MacBook Air.
To me, the decision on whether to upgrade will depend on what else is in the mix. If it comes with Thunderbolt and a backlit keyboard, I may pull the trigger. If it's the same computer but just with the Core 2 Duo/NVIDIA 320m swapped out for the Core i5/Intel HD3000 I might wait it out.

Apple not releasing a new IPHONE in June would really pull the stock into the garbage. It would be hard to make up that lost revenue for the quarter.
You assume that there would be lost revenue. Or rather lost stock value. A lot of that issue could depend on what is announced for iOS, Mac OS, the whole Final Cut game etc. Not to mention ipad sales for the quarter and if they release any new computers, those sales numbers. The buzz from all that could be enough to carry the stock value.
And who knows they could announced in late june but with a 60ish day to launch. And if the phone was 'magical' enough no one would really take issue with the wait.

I think Apple intentionally borked our current 320M graphic power in the 10.6.7 release fiasco. This was intentional. That way when they release the new MBA's with the inferior integrated graphics chipset, they can actually show an IMPROVEMENT in graphic speed.
