Top Shopping Sites of the City

Many people ask me where are the best places to shop in Manhattan now that I have lived and worked here for almost 3 years. Well I will tell you that this city is filled with so many amazing places and hidden jems besides the mainstream tourist hot spots. My main favorite areas for weekend browsing include the obvious 5th Avenue from Rockerfeller Center to Central Park East, Soho area - Broadway and side streets, Bleeker Street/West Village area, Union Square and lower part of 5th Avenue, Columbus Circle intrigued by the Time Warner Building and lastly anywhere, anytime they are having a designer sample sale that I just can't turn down. My favorites to hit regularly are at ClothingLine on 36th Street that house a variety of sales from JCrew to Theory to Tory Burch just to name a few. I love to wander the city on a nice, sunny day especially the street fairs & markets to really dive into the culture. Nothing is more amazing than finding some cute shops in the Village particularly vintage, my new obsession. Today I walked along Bleeker looking at some of my favorites- always loved the Marc Jacobs stores, Intermix, Olive & Bettes, Cynthis Rowley, Housing Works and you can't forget the famous Magnolia Bakery which no matter what the weather is will have a line around the block of people waiting to enjoy those tasty treats. No matter what you are looking for you are sure to find a multitude of places that will peak your interest plus so many more great spots that are sure to broaden your horizons and open you up to new favorites where you will be sure to return.Source URL: http://lifestyleartsblogs.blogspot.com/2010/02/

I live until the day i die.

yesterday i went with three of my best mates to the cinema.
we ended up watching The crazies instead of Shutter island.
basically, beidy and i were the only ones screaming.
afterwards we had lunch/dinner at McDonalds and then i got
pushed around in a Target cart in the rain, with the full
moon in the sky,and the moonlight shinning upon us.
when i got home i cuddled up in the couch with
a blanket and i started reading the Witchcraft comic, which
blew my brains.it was KILLER,i really do love my greek mythology.
a current dilemma of mines is my room...
i finally gave in to the idea of painting it and "remodeling" it a bit.
i dunno if i should go for the colour "crimson" or "midnight blue"?!?!?!
both colours are beautiful, just dunno which one to settle for.
and this one section of our wall is going to consist of framed portraits of
greek gods,The Endless, saints (including saint scream :3 )and in memory of my
gran dad,i am also putting up arch angel Rafael.
and on our ceiling is going to be full blown insanity.
it's going to have tons of quotes, lyrics, and sayings in the different
languages that i speak.got a bit inspired from the wall that is
in the Killing Loneliness video by HIM.
sounds pretty ambitious, but i'll get it all done during my spring break.
since i'm not able to leave to a foreign country,JUST YET!!!!!!!
since i have to wait 'til i'm done with college (next year)
so in the meantime, since i love change,i'm remodeling the room.
and of course i will still have some HIM posters up...their just
going to be framed,to make it look more "clean"

Plant - My windowsill

there are certain people you just keep coming back too.

in our hearts love keeps sweet-talking to despair
and goes on sleepwalking past hope.
all is lost in this was war.
and all we can do is to wail and weep to the saddest song.

i should be in my observational art class right now.
but instead i am at home since the train was way too late.
today was going to be the first day that we had to draw a nude model.
a lady...i think in two weeks we're going to draw a guy.
which i am not anticipating for so many reasons.
i'm not ready to see a guys snail.
anyways, now i am listening to HIM-in the arms of rain, while my dad
    is trying to "create" something.
i am so grateful that i have two parents that have so much
imagination and creativity, now i know where i got my mentality from.

i'm pretty excited for the new Daniel Lioneye album that
comes out on 27 April :)
their first and last album came out in 2001,it's been too long.
and now their back, without Ville in drums and Mige in bass.
but at least Burton is in keyboards.
really proud of Mikko Linstrom (Linde,Daniel Lioneye)
he's always been the enigma figure of the band.
i have only heard him speak once and that's it.
the introverted mute that lets his guitar do the crying
and talking.i am truly proud of him.

Why Is Wedding Photography So Expensive?

I have spoken to clients who shortly after beginning the conversation say something like "why do some photographers charge so much just because it’s a wedding". That line was said by another photographer, not a wedding photographer but someone who specialises in capturing images of prototype cars and will obviously remain nameless.
This is a common view after all we turn up for a couple of hours and then go home so its easy money isn’t it. Well the time to actually take your photographs is just the tip of the iceberg albeit an important bit.
So let’s begin with the list of equipment needed. Check anywhere on the web and any professional wedding photographer will double up on their equipment or even triple it. For the sake of argument in this case lets just double up. So we need two digital SLR cameras. Lenses ranging from at least 24mm to 200mm and these will in all likelihood be fast and expensive lenses with a 2.8 aperture. Most will also have a wide angle lens in their too, two good flashes, memory cards, extra batteries and something to put it all in. That’s the bare minimum. Total cost = £4260 but don’t take my word for it go to any online camera dealer and add this stuff up for yourself and I was being conservative and not buying the main dealers own lenses. One camera alone can cost over £5000 check prices on the Canon EOS 1Ds Mk III.
We now need a computer to process all our images on with a decent monitor. We will also need a colour calibrator to ensure our monitor colour is correct. I can build myself a decent desktop computer for £400, an average monitor will be £300 and the hardware to calibrate my monitor screen will be £135 for the Eye One Display 2. So that’s another £835.
Great so we have our bare essential equipment for a wedding. Now we need to find some customers. So we need a website, web hosting, advertising etc as well but let’s not even think about the cost of that.
So, the day of the wedding arrives. You spent a couple of hours the night before checking and cleaning your equipment, charging batteries checking the route to the venue checking to see if there has been any last minute changes to the day and your ready. Let’s not think about the day but let’s say it’s a whole day’s coverage from 10.00 AM for the bridal preparation to 8.30 PM to capture the first dance. So 10.5 hours of your time plus the 2 hours prep last night total so far 12.5 hours.
Time to go home but your job isn’t over yet so straight on the computer at home to backup the 16 Gb of pictures you have taken and then burn them to 4 or 5 DVDs to make sure they are safe. Another 1.5 hours and then to bed for a good sleep and boy will you need it.
We need to get the wedding proofs to the happy couple and as you have taken all the pictures in RAW you will need to convert them to jpeg and reduce them in size. You’ll probably want to check exposure and white balance etc. So how long for this bit. With 1000 pictures, easily a couple of hours or more and then we need to burn the whole lot onto CD and get it to the couple. Cost off this depends if you post it or take it by hand. But it costs time and money.
Two weeks later the couple call you again to let you know what a wonderful job you have done and they have decided they want 56 of the photographs. Now at this point I can only talk about myself but I like to go through and process each picture as a separate project. I then look at each one and decide if it would look good in black and white or sepia. Add some digital effects, crop here, crop there so on and so forth. It takes me from 25 to 40+ hours to complete that work. I don’t like to rush but prefer to take my time.
So the happy couple get their final proofs and they love them. The wedding album is the next biggest cost for photographers. I am assuming the couple just want a nice traditional wedding album with their pictures mounted in it. If they wanted a Queensbury Album I would have to site down using different software and design the pages. How long this takes can very hugely. But in this case we just need to get the picture ready for printing. Where you have your picture printed depends on what you do to them next. I have to assign a specific custom profile, set the DPI correctly and finally sharpen them for printing. More time and then upload them to the printers ftp server. That takes 2 to 3 hours but I can leave the computer to do that.
Three days later and the prints arrive looking just perfect. I now just have to place 56 photographs into a wedding album. Measure each page etc and then finally mount the photograph in place, 56 times! That’s another 3 to 4 very long hours. Deliver to the bride and groom, job done, easy.
Total cost of equipment to do this wedding = £5095
Total time invested in wedding = 56 working hours
So how much is that worth? Remember to factor in the costs of printing, albums (quality albums are very costly but high quality), mounts, postal charges; fuel and insurance have to be factored in by the photographer. If the cost sounds too good to be true then it probably is.Source URL: http://lifestyleartsblogs.blogspot.com/2010/02/

Say goodbye to sunshine,sunshine.

never did i think i would see the day
that i would cry so much during an episode of skins.
after a night of crying myself to sleep,
and having a dreadful morning, thanks to what happened to me dad.
    Freddie's episode blew me away...
i can't even begin to say how killer luke pasqualino and kaya scodelario's performance was.

and now to cheer this lass up.
i am going to watch the new episode of the dudesons.
'cos whenever i have a bad day or mood...
they always end up making me cry from too much laughter.

Sorry for the long scilence guys, been swamped in school this past week! All I can say is I can't wait for tomorrow. I've kind of been disconnected from my beloved fashion world and spending some time right nowchecking my favorite sites and blogs, before blogging myself on something that catches my eye.Like this...? Nah. ( I forgive you because of the bag though, Dakota...and cus you're fifteen...AND cus I think the look you had in mind was good. But this isn't).

Can't wait for Oscar night fashion!
But since we have to wait another week or so, I just want to give the worst look I have yet seen at the Awards....(drumroll)

Lamp - My nightstand ;-)

A year of SUCCESS!!!

After a humbling year filled with defeat and disappoinment in the video-editing presentation category, I knew that giving up was not the answer. My team stuck it out with me and this year we decided to try AGAIN knowing that we would be happy with whatever outcome was given and we came out successful, it made us appreciate our achievement and hard work all the more!
For BPA we competed in the video production team for the 2nd year running and the theme was "local hero", we interviewed Bill Vandever (WWII veteran in Sophie's ward) and he told us his phenomenal story from the Battle of Iwo Jima. On the regional level we competed against 9 other teams and came out 1st place! It was such a boost after loss and it was great for our team to feel victory for once! We will compete on the state level in March.
For National History Day we entered on the regional level for the 2nd time as a team and the theme was "Innovations in history". We chose to do the Polio Vaccine and it's effect on the human race for a new hope. We also excitedly ended up taking 1st place and recieved a cash prize. We will present at state in April.
I have gained so much knowlege about both subjects along with teamwork skill and, it was really awesome. But all-in-all, I would definately have to say that we had much more fun creating our work than actually presenting it...you can judge for yourself:)
We speak no evil, See no evil, hear no evil
    We love each other's company
Even though we ganged up on little emily...
    We're pretty cool...
    We have Edelweisse sing-a-longs!
It's rare for us to be serious...la la la la la la
Sophie is a scandal (nothing new:)
    ...not to mention a snaggle
    We grew together
It has been a fun ride
We love to hang out, around, and upside down
Laughing is a nessessity in each other's presence
    self-explanitory moments of humor
    uh oh...

    FAIL

    :)
