Macs have the intelligence built in to auto-connect independent of the cable type. It doesn't matter what kind of cable you use, your Mac sorts it out internally. Cool, huh? :cool:

This ad appears to be aimed at the business guy, telling him he can use a Mac too. Not like the US ads where they simply make fun of the un-cool PC.
My wife grew up in Tokyo and Japanese is her native language. She thinks the ad is funny. It's a cultural thing, the same ad when translated would seem odd, not funny here in the US. I think this explains why you don't dub over a translation of a US ad.

I wonder why in Thailand it's just a Thai voice-over of the US Version (of Justin Long) commercial. Well, we're pretty much the smallest mac market in the world therefore there's no need for the localized version of Mac... LOL

Exactly, for those folks who think Kodak was just a film company you're totally off base. They had the diversity but not the vision to adjust to the transition and ended up wholesale auctioning their future. Kinda what we're doing as a country right now.
Kodak believed that their "customers" were the drug stores that did the film developing -- and those drug stores hated the idea of digital photography. So instead of focusing on the their real customers (i.e.: those who used their camera and film) they played to the whims of the drug stores and the entire digital revolution passed them by.
Funny though, one of the best cameras we ever had for producing decent photos was the one that used their magnetic film and showed you what the picture you just took looked like on a little LCD screen. If you did not like the picture you could mark it for "do not develop" and then take another. You saved money on developing bad photos this way and you were still using film (albeit a new kind of film). I can still remember the commercial for that camera with the young couple visiting in Italy trying to get different locals to take photos of them in a specific spot so they could make it look just like an old photo they had of one of their parents in the same spot from decades earlier. Each photo that turned out wrong was marked to not be developed and then they would try again until they got the perfect shot. Funny how they did not see that digital photography accomplished the same thing but in a better way. They really missed the boat.

well.. I was a sucker hoping for an authentic kit. My wife really wanted a white iphone, and I bought this kit to convert a regular one as an x-mas gift.
Apple has nothing to worry about. These pieces are not from Apple.. they're friggin plastic. Filing a dispute with paypal and my CC now.

This has nothing to do with Macs, or it might depending on which rumors you believe, but AMD's Clawhammer is coming out in the first quarter of 2003 and will likely be marketed as a 3400+ which would be higher than the PV at 3.2 Ghz. However, unless this chip gets used in the next Powermac revision (not likely, I know, but possible) then IBM better get that almost-too-good-to-be-true-Power4-mini-me out fast. I'm going to wait until October to see IBM's roadmap for any further speculation though. :)

It's only been a bit of fun, but the homeless charity Shelter have received a large slice of cash in the process (http://www.justgiving.com/ratm4xmas) and are due to get more from RATM themselves.
This makes it all worthwhile in my opinion. A merry xmas indeed.

hes obvs talking about non physical distribution (hint: broadband). using a usb stick is just as "dumb" as using a disc, its still physical media, whats the difference if u plug in a usb stick or use a disc which is cheaper to produce ...
The difference is that the DVD drive is a relict from the last century. No need to put this big mechanical noisy space wasting thing in any new machine. The USB stick is for those who can't download for whatever reason. I have not used the DVD drive in years - still all my machines have this thing in it. I dare to say that the majority of users don't need a DVD drive - and for those that need one, they should have the option to get an optional one on new machines, but no need to have it by default in every new machine.

You're right that this state does have one of the highest deficits and tax rates for high incomes. However, if you look at the figures, despite the tax rate, Californians still earn more per capita on average than Texans. If you're looking to save money, it doesn't necessarily make sense to move.
Without going into the chicken/egg of it, Californians have to earn more since their housing costs are roughly 2/3 higher than Texas (per bankrate.com's cost of living comparison calculator as of this morning).
We earn less, but pretty much everything also costs less here.

I grew up on a pc and now I choose Mac because it's so much better in my opinion. Personally I'm not liberal and I'm not super conservative either. I odiously care about my appearance, and I'm not a vegetarian. I do like the Beatles though wherever that fits in. So I'm not anywhere near this statistic. Windows Is more complicated, but it would be fine if it wasn't slow, get viruses all the time, and when u click an app it doesn't take ten min to pop up (not to mention u get so frustrated u click it several time and then like 7 windows pop up). Personally this never happens to my Mac iknow my way a round both os's but I also own most apple products. I take care of the pc sitting in the basement my dad uses it for email when he is not on the iPad, so it doesn't get that much use but it slows down fast so we clean it out every year ( back what we need up and then wipe the thing). The pc is cheeper that is why most of the world uses them, there is a thiving computer repair business for a reason (not many for Mac). But whatever floats your boat I guess lol

Windows is garbage.
Virtualizing Windows desktops will be like a bad sitcom - everybody is laughing except the ones who work on it.
Personally, I lean left-wing on some issues, right-wing on one or two issues. but prefer not being labeled as anything. For left-wing or right-wing, they're both part of a big turkey. I am an individual. I am a free man. Not a number. :D
My appearance could be better, but I'd rather get to work. Substance over style. Mac has a great look, but the OS is what counts the most.

And once info is added into the registry, it can (usually) be removed but the registry cannot be compacted. Bloat creeps in and reinstalling is inevitable, if performance is a concern. Even with Win7, which has bugs that SP1 hasn't fixed either...
OS X has a couple of foibles, but compared to Windows "it just works" is not an inaccurate statement and, quite frankly, is vastly superior to Windows.

He's very into simplicity and minimalism, just look at the way apple products are designed. I think its a conscious choice to wear a simple black turtleneck and jeans, even though he could easily afford any clothes he wanted.
I know of a famous professor in my field (Alan Heeger) who never wears anything but black at conferences. Whenever I wear a black shirt with a suit, I joke that I'm wearing my Heeger costume.

If the goal of Apple software is to sell Apple hardware, wouldn't it make more sense to give the airplay licenses away rather than trying to sell them?
You are looking at this from a "buying new products" position. What about all of those people who already own Roku and Boxee set-top systems? Those boxes are fully updatable and capable of playing back the exact same content the AppleTV can play (MPEG4, AAC, MP3, H.264, etc).
And for people that already own those, NONE of them would switch to an AppleTV. Reason: Roku and Boxee have far more features, save one (AirPlay), and AirPlay alone is not worth $99 to most of those Roku and Boxee owners.
I own a Roku so I can connect it to not only my HDTV in my living room, but move it to my old CRT television in my bedroom (via Component/Composite cables) as well as to hotel TVs when I bring it with me on vacations or out-of-town trips. I would love for AirPlay video to be supported on it.
