Brazos Cotton Exchange Wedding - {Cathi & Austin}

Cathi and Austin had a wonderful wedding that was encompassed in family, friends and traditions. This Aggie couple began their wedding day getting ready at Grace Bible Church, where they had their ceremony. The church was still, except for the sounds of laughter and conversation at opposite ends of the halls. As with most weddings, there are always a few hiccups to keep the wedding party on their toes. Missing dress socks, tuxedo jackets too short, and then there's usually the one groomsman in the corner using the mobile google app to search on how to properly fold the handkerchief. All crisis were averted immediately before the ceremony and when the doors opened to reveal the bride and her father walking down the aisle, it's obvious that there's nothing else in the world in the couple's eyes, except for each other. Cathi and Austin were no exception to this rule and as the pastor began the ceremony, a few quick glances and a flash of smiles from the couple and they were already speaking their own language. As the ceremony came to a close, Austin dipped Cathi and kissed her and the pastor announced them as husband and wife.

On to their reception at the Brazos Cotton Exchange in downtown Bryan, the details were exquisitely prepared for their guests to peruse over during cocktail hour. The bridal cake was a towering structural piece of art and the sweet smell of the icing emanated from it, creating a heavenly cloud of sweet bliss. The food was served and then it was time for the first dance. Cathi and Austin glided on the dance floor as any newlywed in love and they created a world that pulled the onlookers into, with a gravitational force that couldn't be fought. Nor would you want to. I could see all of the married couples reminisce on their first dance at their wedding and then the party began. In a flash of scenes from their toast to their cake cutting and the garter and bouquet tosses, there was little to no downtime. The celebratory fury even caught some of the grandmother's dancing together on the floor, in a symbolic union of two families coming together. It came time for the last dance and exit, and one last time, the couple opened the door to their world, for their guests watch and infuse themselves in their marital bliss. Congratulations Cathi and Austin!

College Station Bridal Session - {Heather}

We had such a fun bridal session with Heather, another one of our Aggie brides, and thanks to her father, she had an awesome muscle car as a prop. We started out at the George Bush Library at Texas A&M and hit some of the popular spots, including the bridge and pavilion by the pond. We then hit the huge Aggie Ring at the Clayton Williams Alumni building before heading to her parent's house for set with her dad's Ford Mustang. Heather's parent's hospitality was amazing! Her mom offered Erika and I cool iced tea after sweating outside for a couple of hours and her dad and I had a great conversations over cars and cameras. The group promptly sprung to action, after our fifteen minute refresher and started working on a capturing some fantastic images with the bride and her dad's Mustang. The paint glistened as the sun poured through the fingertips of the trees and their outstretched limbs. Then clickety-click, and we were off to the final destination: the famed Administration building with its soaring columns and picturesque setting. As we arrived, the Corps of Cadets were finishing up some group pictures and we patiently waited until we heard the sound of metal clinking taps and spurs to the pavement. We finished our session as the sun set over Aggieland and Heather could finally relax until her wedding day. Stay tuned for the rest of Heather and Mark's wedding, coming soon!

College Station Bridal Session - {Cathi}

Cathi, another one of our Aggie Brides, wanted to begin her bridal session where her husband proposed to her: The pavillion at the George Bush Library. From there we headed to downtown Bryan and the La Salle Hotel for a posh and modern look where Cathi's infectious smile and upbeat attitude splashed a warm tone on our dramatic portion of the session. Since she's an elementary education graduate, it was only natural that we finished at Mitchell Elementary school in Austin's Colony, using the traditional staple that students used to bring to class to impress or bribe their instructor. Congrats to you and Austin on your nuptials and stay tuned for the remainder of their wedding!

College Station Engagement Session - {Ashlyn & Curt}

We started off our session where Curt proposed on campus at Texas A&M. When we approached the bench where he asked Ashlyn to marry him, the bright orange color of the construction fence that blocked a portion of the area had Curt thinking of alternate benches nearby. Throwing caution to the wind, I started moving the obnoxious barrier that stood in our way and Curt followed my lead. When we finished, we politely moved it back to its proper place and felt satisfied that we captured the location where their lives began to merge. Before we left A&M, we stopped off by the Century tree near the Academic Building, meanwhile dodging a soon to be groom (hopefully) nervously waiting on his lady.

Bluebonnets, bluebonnets, bluebonnets! The only one of two weeks here in the Brazos Valley that Bluebonnets lifted their heads from the soil to greet the world, happened to be on the weekend that we shot Ashlyn & Curt's Engagement Session. Curt affectionately called the next location our "Honey-hole" and Ashlyn said they'd been looking for a place exactly as this one. An old Ford truck made a great prop for our session amongst a backdrop of rolling hills, green and blue.

What better way to end the session than with a Texas country themed setting. The ingredients: A great looking couple, a cedar log fence, a cowboy hat, and boots. Congrats you two! We're looking forward, now, to the bridal session!

The light dusting of snow on the ground this morning got me to thinking... How cool would it be to be shooting an engagement session or bridal session right now!? Being a Texan, as most of you probably are, (its a big state) I'm kind of averse to cold weather. However, I thought I'd post some food for thought for those of you wondering what a good time of year is for scheduling your outdoor photo session. I'm not saying that you have to stick to this guideline, but you ladies that have to shoot your bridal session in weather like this, are understatedly brave.

I'm going with the historic average, but keep in mind the weather is unpredictable and there may be exceptions. In any case, let's take a look at the current month of February. With temperature averages ranging from 41 degrees on the low side to 69 degrees on the high, I rarely recommend scheduling an outdoor bridal session, unless you can stand the cold and/or it's snowing like today. Engagement sessions on the other hand, are okay in any precipitation, as long as you both don't mind having to wear a heavy jacket in your photographs. Sometimes it can bring out a sense of intimacy with a couple when the groom is holding his bride tight in the midst of Jack Frost. Towards the end of February and going into March, the average temperature raises to a comfortable level for outdoor sessions.

The average for March ranges from 45 degrees on the low side to 79 degrees on the high. March is typically a much better month for comfortable outdoor sessions. Keep in mind that this is also the month that most schools have their spring break and when the bluebonnets start to climb out from the ground. March tends to be the perfect 'spring' month for photographing outdoors.

Most of the fair weather continues through April (54º/82º) and May (61º/89º). When May starts creeping upon us is when the days tend to be a little warmer, a little more humid, and a little less desirable. In case you're wondering 'Why isn't it desirable?' Simply put, sweat doesn't photograph very well and uncomfortable expressions can take over the session. Also, because of the time and effort brides spend on their makeup and hair, in hot and muggy weather, makeup melts and sweats off, and hair falls with the humidity. It only gets worse in June (69º/94º)...
