Annamarie and Russell

Annamarie and Russell were married the evening before Australia Day at the Rice Queen in Fitzroy. Annamarie's dark blue Carla Zampatti and Juliet's gold Alannah Hill dresses complimented the Rice Queen's eclectic interior. We popped upstairs to Panama for some photos after the ceremony.

Gear Head: Lensbaby

Erika affectionately refers to me as a "Gear Head" because I'm always researching the latest photographic products to see if there's anything out there that we could use to compliment our style or even take our images to a whole new level.  Periodically, I'll reach into my gear bag and post a review of what we carry to each session.

This inaugural post will be a review of the Lensbaby.  I came across this new lens at a workshop in Oregon and I thought it was a great piece to add to the gear bag.  One of the first things you will notice about the images that it takes, is that it's like a photoshop action in your hands.  (Photoshop and Photoshop actions will be covered in a later post)  Simply put, it's a porthole to a completely different world in terms of the way the world can be viewed.

Another aspect that I love about the Lensbaby is that it has interchangeable lenses.  I can go from a tilt/shift type lens to a fisheye with approximately 160 degree view.  There are multiple combinations of lens types and effects that can be put together to create your own view of the world without spending hours post processing the images to make them look that way.

Being a manual focus lens, gives me a throwback to my first SLR I purchased in college.  I'm not trying to date myself, but I did have to develop film back then to see what turned out and what didn't.  It certainly was an expensive habit.  (**Enter Erika - "Was?"**)

So, what does the Lensbaby actually do?  Take a look at the images below to see a comparison between a regular lens, the Lensbaby with the Double Glass optic, and the Lensbaby with a fisheye.

Crossing Fingers for Egyptians to Succeed

I normally shy away from political statements in this blog.

HOWEVER, I hereby declare, that I support the egyptian people in their revolution for democracy and freedom and ousting Mubarak.

I know this isn't much, but I really keep my fingers crossed for you to succeed. It is time for a change and you can make this change happen.

Des yeux glasses.

I believe that sunglasses are very trendy but they don't let other people see one of the most important things of you (your eyes). That's why I created "Des yeux glasses" These are very trendy glasses and at the same time other people can see how wonderful your eyes can be. They are not on the market yet, but you can make your own "Des yeux glasses" with the shape and colour that you want. Try it, you will be fascinated!

Colorful Morning

Paleojourney - A Mac Photo Booth Diary - Week 4 + Whole30 Start

Okay, the first month of "fully" Primal is over. Frankly, I haven't reached my weight goal, which was an easy 59,9 kg. The reasons? My cold at the start of the month and the last week, eating a Lebkuchen (because my mom frustrated me to no end) and celebrating my new job this Friday with friends (2 Desperados beers, 1 coke, 1 salad with a side of baguette, Tortilla chips). So today I weighed 60,9 kg, which is exactly the same as on December 31st. At the start of this week I was down to 60,2 kg. Well, that's what I get when I don't keep my insulin low and eat wheat.

Since I still have my skin issues and I wasn't 100% Paleo and got the receipt for it, I've decided to do the "Whole 30" starting today. Which essentially means eating real food for 30 days straight. I'll "Cut out all the inflammatory, insulin-spiking, calorie-dense but nutritionally sparse food groups for a full 30 days." (http://whole9life.com/2010/12/whole30-2011/)

Here is what I won't eat for the next 30 days:
    • added sugar of any kind, real or artificial
    • processed foods
    • alcohol
    • grains
    • legumes
    • dairy
    • white potatoes
This is essentially the Paleo Diet as proposed by Dr. Cordain and I won't step on my scale for the next 30 days (rule of the Whole30). Since it's all about the other changes and not my weight, though I will probably loose some fat. But most importantly I want my skin and health to improve, remember there is still my knee issue that prevents me from running (*annoyed sigh*). The real challenge will be when I move to Stuttgart around the 20th. I'll really have to dial my food usage and amounts in until then. Dormitary and a new job in a new city, quite the challenge.

Okay, now I'm off to Starbucks (I'll drink a tea {it's not only cheaper but also sugarfree, so ten times better then the Chocolate Mocha I had these past weeks} and water, I'll bring Brazil nuts should I need a snack), after all I still have a lot of reading to do until 23rd and I simply can't stand it to stay at home all day anymore. Which is an interesting change of pace, I've had no problem with it a few weeks ago.

Enjoy your Sundays and have a good start into the new week.

Weekend Getaway Day 1 @ Penang Island

I know this is a late post for about a week but better late than never right? Headed up North on a weekend for some chillax moment. As usual, one must try out Penang's famous local food when you are invading the island. This is just a short trip, not much but foods and beaches say it all.

Mind you, Penang is not only famous with CKT and Laksa, they have the famous CHEE CHEONG FUN in the island too! Yes, it's CCF!! It is different from the KL and Ipoh version. The Penang version CCF always serve with "Hae Ko" (Prawn paste) which still acceptable for me. Frankly speaking, am not a big fan of CCF and never be! But this CCF changed my mind, it is out of the ordinary! This is the second time I had CCF at the island, which I would love to come again!! Compared to my first try on my previous post, I would prefer this as it is the BEST CCF I ever had!
Small plate (2 rice noodle rolls) RM1.80, Large plate (3 rice noodle rolls) RM2.70

CCF RM1.80. The silky rice noodle rolls were magically slathered with thick sweet sauce, chilli sauce and well-seasoned with sprinkles of grounded sesame seeds. The sweet sauce was an ingeniously mix of "hae ko" (prawn paste) with peanut butter. First try on a peanut butter taste of CCF and it's awesomely good! The combination of sauces was perfect! I want more peanut butter version of Chee Cheong FUN!!

Spotted some newspaper ads placed at the stall itself, I assumed it must be one of the famous ones from this coffeeshop.

Another mouth-watering localities-> Curry Mee RM2.50. Notice that black thick paste on the spoon? It is some dark chilli paste to add spiciness but failed coz it is not spicy at all! The color of broth might look slightly lighter than the usual but upon mixing the chilli paste, it turns out reddish and maintaining the fragrant of coconut juice. The curry mee comes along with cockles, coagulated pig's blood, fresh medium sized prawns and tau pok.

Char Koay Teow (CKT) at the same coffeeshop as well. Nothing much to shout about on this CKT. It tasted dry and oily

    Where?
    Kedai Kopi Genting Cafe
    Lorong Delima 3,
    Island Glades, Penang.
    (At Greenlane Area)
    Opening hours : 7am-7pm

    Food : CCF (8.5/10), Curry Mee (7.5/10), CKT (5/10)
    Service : Overall, 6/10
Pricing : 8/10 (It is cheap and affordable as it is a normal coffee shop)
Ambiance : 4.5/10 (Can't expect for cozy or clean environment as it is purely a coffee shop)
*Verdict : Go early as it will be damn packed during lunch hour, you might end up sharing a table with unknowns. They have limited seats!

Stay tune for the 2nd part!
    ~xoxo~

    Cheers,
    Elaine

Wanted: New Travel Destination for Photographers with Nomadic Hearts

Howdy from the buzzing metropolis that is College Station, TX...and TGIF!

Now that the holidays are over, it's time to start planning our next big adventure.  Las Vegas?  Hawaii?  Europe?  Destination wedding somewhere warm and tropical?  :)

Now Tommy is the definition of impulsive.  "Wedding in Puerto Rico next week...we're there!"  He's all about keeping an open mind and getting things done rather than make excuses.  He seriously would volunteer us to shoot a wedding in Rome on Sunday for the right price.

I, on the other hand, must confess that I am a PLANNER to the n-th degree.  I'm ready and able to bring Tommy's wild plans to fruition (ahhem, within reason).  I am a self-proclaimed Priceline-, Travelocity-, Expedia-loving diva.  And I'm okay with that.

Who knows where we'll be jetting off to next.  Any suggestions?

On a parting note, here is some eye candy to daydream about as you sit in your office counting down the seconds until 5.  They're just a few shots from our recent trip to Puerto Rico...including one lucky pup living the life.

    Have a fantabulous weekend,

    Erika
