The MV Napa

I had the honor of shooting for the Golden Gate Bridge a few weeks ago. Yes, THE Golden Gate Bridge. In their role as providers of transportation for the lovely city of San Fransisco, they were mandated in having to purchase a marine vehicle, (thus, the MV Napa) to further their border of helping folks get from point A to point B. Long story short, The GGB bought the MV Napa, a ferry that had it's official commissioning June 10th. Several VIPs were present including a spokesperson from the White House who presented the GGB committee with a our glorious flag that had been flown over the White House just days before this event. Yours truly was there to capture it all.

The MV Napa will be harbored in Napa California, thus the name. The ceremony was there as well. To everyone's surprise, the sun completely disappeared. Everyone was expecting a scorcher of a day with the festivities being in Napa and all. We never saw the sun, rather we had a cool, overcast VERY windy day. I loved it.

Talent is a wonderful thing to have. One's talent will take them to the fulfillment of dreams. Talent mixed with hard work is a recipe for success in any path of life. That said, I'd be remiss not to mention that knowing the right people does what talent and hard work can't sometimes. I'm glad I know Ms. Kellee Hopper. Thank you, Kellee, for the shout to the powers that be over there at the GG Bridge. You are a wonderful person, and Moni and I are consider you as one of our closest friends. Homemade burgers on me? ;)

    Thanks for the look everyone.

Heidi and Dave :: Married - Appleton, Wisconsin

    May 30, 2009

Heidi and Dave are an amazing couple living and working in downtown Chicago. They love living in the big city but decided to have their wedding in Heidi's hometown of Appleton, Wisconsin.

Heidi is a very organized person... having just competed the Boston marathon proves that she is also hard working and dedicated. So when I arrived at her parents home and found a hand written note of things to remember on the wedding day I wasn't surprised. She must have gotten her skills from her mom who put together by hand over a hundred place cards that included a cut out of the Chicago skyline.

Heidi and Dave had custom invitations made as well as a custom wedding ring plate with their names and date on it. Their wedding colors where a cornflower blue and were incorporated in everything from the cocktail length bridesmaids dresses to the linens and chair bows. Everything was beautiful!

I had the pleasure of shooting with second photographer Mia Stevens. Mia was a great addition to the day... here is a link to her blog to see her upcoming post of her photos from this wedding. Mia and I are both members of the Collection, an amazing group of photographers who not only refer each other when we are booked... but also second shoot together, travel to conventions and even cover weddings in the case of an emergency.

It was a great pleasure to shoot Heidi and Dave's wedding... Congratulations!!!! Here are my favorites from the day....

I love photographing the bride and groom from different angles at church.

This blue wall was the perfect compliment to their wedding colors!

The lighting and the food at the Riverview Coutnry Club was fabulous!

A beautiful reception location! Look at the shape of this room!!!

Saturday's Wedding

Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing Carolyn and Martin's beautiful wedding at Barnett Hill in Wonersh, Surrey. A stunning day of emotion, fun, family and friends basking in the perfect late June sunshine. A mix of Norwegian, English and Scottish celebrated the love of the gorgeous couple which even had the registrar in tears during the emotional service.

As ever the couple's full wedding story will follow shortly but here is a picture of the rings. They say never work with animals or children but I'll add ice to that as it took ages to get the rings to stand nicely in the ice cube with only seconds to spare before it melted or slid off out of frame, still I think it was worth the effort.

Sit!

This little guy is not only unbearably cute
but he's super smart as well.
My oldest son Israel has already taught him to sit
when offered a treat or his favorite toy.
I hope I'm not boring you to death
with puppy posts, but I just can't help it :)

Fun Fact Friday - A piece of family history

Fact: I love churches and their history....

Last weekend while shooting the ceremony in St. Mary's Church in Menasha, I noticed a particular stained glass window with a recognizable name. The window read "in memory of Mrs. John Oberweiser".

My husband's grandfather was named John Oberweiser but his grandmother May is still alive and well. And obviously the windows where crafted when the church was built in the late 1800's.

So I asked Andy's mom and dad who are genealogy buffs. We found out that the Mr. and Mrs. John Oberweiser are indeed relation and are my son's Great, Great, Great Grandparents.

Such a fun find! St. Mary's Catholic Church in Menasha is gorgeous... look for Michelle and Andy's wedding day blog post coming soon!Source URL: http://lifestyleartsblogs.blogspot.com/2009/06/

Promises

Not much to say in these days, primarily because there's not much to do, except read. And when things are like this, Facebook has the annoying tendency of being a better outlet for foolish updates.
No matter, we shall change that. Make this blog a worthwhile occupant of its internet space. Yessire you can count on me.
So, where do we start? I dunno. I'll post some cool stories when I have some cool stories to post about. But for now, I think I'll go to the library.
P.S. Read Orwell, he's amazing. And listen to Rachmaninov. And Chopin. And have fun while you can.
    Ciao.Source URL: http://lifestyleartsblogs.blogspot.com/2009/06/

Poetry

In the spirit of blogging about more than just my work I was going through my bookshelf last night and found a series of books I had made when just a wee bit younger (well quite a bit if I'm honest). Yes, I have to confess I wrote poetry as I grew up and to an extent still do, I've always loved writing which is why I like this blog so much and why I'm enjoying writing articles for Perfect Wedding now too. As I flicked through the poetry books I wrote, I found a couple of titles that I thought I would share with you, specifically as they are about weddings (maybe I was always destined to work in the wedding industry). I wrote this first one before my sisters wedding nearly twelve years ago.

    When is the Wedding

When the sun rises on that morning
And the birdsong awakens the natural dawning
When your heart fills with more than just life
And your love makes you man and wife
When the people you've shared your life with
Come to you and blessings give
When you declare in a moment in time
That you are each others for all time
When you exchange rings and look in the eye
The reason for life, the reason why
When your heart is theirs and theirs is yours
And together you open the future's doors
When nothing can ever tear you apart
With love always healing the broken heart
When the dusk sets on this day
With you together always to stay
    When the day is gone
But the memory and love lives on
    When you've come together
    And remain that way forever.

If I don't get too slated for posting some romantic verse I'll follow up with the other wedding one and who knows maybe some more too.Source URL: http://lifestyleartsblogs.blogspot.com/2009/06/

Sonia & Bruce wed at Barnsgate Manor

On a seriously hot and sunny Sunday, Sonia and Bruce had a beautiful wedding at Barnsgate Manor in Sussex. After getting ready at her parent's house, Sonia made the journey to Barnsgate where Bruce was waiting for her replete in kilt. A lovely service was followed by much needed drinks in the grounds which boast beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.

After some lovely food and great speeches the evening guests arrived and the party began.
